So you’re having a baby! Congratulations! Everything seems all fine and dandy till all of a sudden your doctor informs you that you need to be put on bed rest. Woman are put on bedrest for multiple reasons such as high blood pressure, incompetent cervix, premature labor, placenta complications, or even dilating too soon. Nonetheless it adds on huge amounts of stress to your pregnancy. Nearly 20% of woman are put on bedrest limiting their activity to prevent pre-term labor and many other complications. So now what? What are you going to do now that you have been restricted to your couch or bed? Only go to the bathroom?? Forget it.
Here are some fun activities to do while you are confined to one spot till your doctor lifts your orders or until you give birth to your bundle of joy.
Have Friends Over. Most people like having company at their homes. Invite some people over for dinner. Order take out or have a pot luck. Enjoy some friend time over a meal and just have a nice sociable time.
Write A Blog. Blogging is actually a healer. It lowers your blood pressure during stressful times. Being a bed rester myself during my pregnancies I am aware of the stress involved. Writing allows you to express your thoughts and connect with other people. It also helps refine your writing skills and increases your knowledge base due to extra amounts of research and advice from other bloggers or friends that have read your writings.
Give Yourself A Manicure. Even if you are not allowed to move around too much you can still keep yourself looking and feeling beautiful. Have a friend or your spouse stop at a store and pick up supplies to give yourself a manicure. Pampering yourself is also a stress reliever.
Go Shopping. The internet has made it quite possible these days to do just about anything. Jump online and find some cute stuff to purchase. The good part about shopping online is that you really don’t have to do anything at all but push a button. Also the chances of buying something that no one else has is greater than if you went directly to the store. Everyone likes having unique items!
Make A Baby Book. Instead of having that same boring book you can get at the store make a unique gift for your new baby. Add pictures and a time line for you and your child to add to as time goes on. When your child gets older you can look back at this wonderful gift you made and they can then share it with their children. It’s also a wonderful way to bond with your child as well.
Skype. Again the internet is an extremely powerful tool. Download Skype and chat with friends if they are unavailable to stop at your house. This is especially great if you have family that is out of town. They can then see your beautiful baby bump!
Paint Your Belly. There is nothing more beautiful to me than a baby bump! Painting your belly is a good way to be fun and also bond with your baby’s father or other children you may have. Or even a friend! Paint your belly into a pumpkin, a baseball, or a fish tank! Be creative!
Hopefully these simple ideas help you while on best rest. Take care of yourself and congratulations on your new baby!
